Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, has welcomed the news that Sarah McFadden, from Bellaghy, has been named in the GB Ladies Olympic Football Team for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
“It is great news that Sarah has been rewarded for her hard work and commitment with this call-up to the GB Ladies Olympic Football Team. She has performed at the highest level for Sunderland AFC Ladies and for Northern Ireland and this is a great opportunity for her to show her ability on the biggest stage of all.
“It will be fantastic to see athletes from the Mid-Ulster area competing in London this summer at the Olympic Games. There was stiff competition from the ladies from England, Scotland and Wales to get into the squad, so this is a real testament to Sarah’s abilities.
“I would like to wish Sarah, and the other Northern Ireland ladies in the squad; Ashley Hutton and Emma Higgins, all the very best.”
