Nesbitt attends Ulster Covenant exhibition launch

Ulster Unionist Party leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA has attended the opening of an exhibition marking the centenary of the signing of the Ulster Covenant.

Speaking after the launch at Schomberg House, Mike said:

“The exhibition launched today provides the public with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Ulster Covenant and the Home Rule period.  There is an extensive collection of artifacts from the early 1900’s which help to paint a vivid picture of the time.’

“I would encourage the public to visit the exhibition either at Schomberg House in June or at the Somme Heritage Centre during July as it really is fascinating to see some of the pieces, such as Lord Brookeborough’s signed Covenant or the original printing plates.’

“The signing of the Ulster Covenant is an extremely important piece of our history which completely changed the political landscape, indeed it was a pivotal moment in the lead up to the creation of Northern Ireland.  I believe that exhibitions such as this one will go some way to helping create a better understanding of our shared history.’
